The Fall/Winter Collection Design Story

Posted by Life.Church Admin on

The goods and apparel we create each season are intentionally made to tell one cohesive story. This fall/winter season, our design team felt inspired to create items that reflect the strength, encouragement, and power of relationships.

Choosing to follow Jesus is a deeply personal choice, but it’s not a private choice. It starts as an individual decision but it leads us to deep, lasting relationships with God and with others.

Jesus tells us that the two most important things we can do as His followers are to love God and love our neighbors. This means that our faith is defined by relationships. And, as we love God and our neighbors, we find strength, joy, and direction in life.

Our Theme for the Fall/Winter Collection

We wanted to create a collection inspired by relationships, so we chose focus phrases and keywords to help guide our design process.

We found inspiration in our LifeGroups ministry. It’s a team that’s focused on helping people find life-giving, trusted relationships. They currently use two phrases that speak to the heart of our desire for this collection: Find Your People and Love Your Neighbor.

These phrases speak to the give-and-take of life-giving relationships. We need people with whom we can laugh, cry, and enjoy life. The kind of people we know will answer our call when we need them and who want to celebrate life’s big milestones alongside us. But we’re also called to invest in others, even when it’s hard, inconvenient, or uncomfortable. Jesus’ call to love our neighbors invites us to think outside of the bubble of our friend groups to reach anyone who needs hope, care, and kindness.

Keywords for the Fall/Winter Collection

Once we had chosen our focus phrases, we identified a few keywords to provide additional guidance for the design of our goods and apparel. These words highlight individual energizing elements of relationships.

1. Belonging
As followers of Jesus, we belong to a global movement that’s actively engaged in changing the world. No matter where we come from or the choices we’ve made in the past, we all have the opportunity to belong to God’s family. So wherever we are, we’re never truly alone. God is always with us, and we worship alongside a global family.

… so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. Romans 12:5 NIV

“True belonging doesn’t require you to change who you are; it requires you to be who you are.” —Brené Brown

2. Purpose
We aren’t a group of people that just hang out in a bubble. We are a community with a purpose—to lead people to become fully devoted followers of Christ. We all have a part to play, and no one can do it alone. So we celebrate the diversity of God’s family and the unity of our purpose.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9 NIV

“We are each other’s harvest; we are each other’s business; we are each other’s magnitude and bond.” —Gwendolyn Brooks

3. Vitality
Our faith is empowered by God’s life-giving presence through the Holy Spirit. And we know that when we draw close to other followers of Jesus, our faith is strengthened. So we hope to reflect in this collection how relationships bring out the best in us, and how, together, we’re changing the world.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5 NIV

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” —Maya Angelou

We Can Do More Together

Followers of Jesus can do more together than we could ever do on our own. This collection is a celebration of all that God can do through our personal relationship with Him, and how His love for us empowers us to love others.
